Royal VolkerWessels Stevin NV (VolkerWessels) and BWI sign International Framework Agreement

The Dutch Construction company Royal Volker Wessels Stevin NV (VolkerWessels) and the Building and Wood Workers International (BWI) signed on 22 January 2007 in Rotterdam an International framework agreement on the promotion and protection of workers' rights in the activities and undertakings of VolkerWessels and its contractors, subcontractors and suppliers. The agreement was signed by Herman Hazewinkel, CEO of VolkerWessels, BWI General Secretary Anita Normark, Dick van Haaster, President of FNV Bouw and Arend van Wijngaarden, President of CNV Hout en Bouw.

With this world-wide valid agreement the company commits itself to achieve social justice and sustainable development The ageement is based on the core conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). In addition, the company also agreed to offer decent wages and working conditions as well as to provide a safe and healthy working environment.

VolkerWessels is a close-knit group of companies working in construction and related fields. Its 125 operating companies trade as independent entities with their own profit and market responsibility, and are divided into three different sectors: Building & Property Development, Infrastructure and Other Activities. VolkerWessels focuses its activities mainly on the Netherlands. It also has offices in a limited number of other countries: Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada.
